Deer Only Hunts

On a deer-only hunt with Circle KBL you should choose which species of deer you would like to target, as each one is found in different habitat, for the most part, and requires different preparations and planning.

Mule Deer

The Selway produces great mountain muleys. Although we've killed a fair number of 30"-plus bucks it is more common to find mature bucks ranging from 22" to 28" wide but having the added bonus of mass and height. The quality of bucks often times allows for cheaters or drop tines on one or both sides.

The best time to hunt these mule deer is when they are rutting in late October and November. By early November, in a typical-weather fall, they are in full rut and the hunting is action-packed.

Generally these hunts are staged from our base camp Paradise, with spiking out one or two nights at a time at various locations during the course of the hunt to catch optimum hunting hours on the high ridges.

Whitetail Deer

We call these 'wilderness whitetails' in the Selway. Unlike many lowland or private land deer hunts, these bucks see very little pressure. Consequently, a hunter can see good numbers daily from the ground while still hunting. The whitetails usually rut a week to ten days later than the muleys, making November the ideal time to hunt them.

The Selway produces nice whitetail bucks with the mature ones in the 130 -140 class and the upper end being in the 160's. These hunts are typically staged from one of our wilderness base camps, approximately a 3-hour ride from Paradise. This is a great hunt for all ages and is an especially good starter hunt for younger hunters.

Circle KBL features Buck Rutkus™ the very last week of season. This is a semi-guided Whitetail hunt during peak rut. The guides will pick up and drop off hunters at specified points and pack harvested deer into camp. All meals are prepared same as our fully guided hunts. This is an incredible opportunity for the serious whitetail hunter to hunt the peak rut in a wilderness setting at an affordable price. Consider bringing your son or daughter. Circle KBL allows up to 8 hunters on this hunt, everyday will be action packed - The best whiteys will be harvested this week.
